About

Dr Sarah McKenna (BA, BSc (Hons), PhD, MAPS) is a clinical psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Australian National University. She has over 10 years of experience across clinical and academic roles, including schools, community services, private practice and, most recently, an academic position at the University of Sydney. She now works exclusively in our clinic, drawing on this varied background to inform her therapeutic approach.

Sarah specialises in mood disorders, including major depressive and bipolar disorders, in teenagers and young people (anyone under 30), but enjoys working with adults across the lifespan. She also has experience with anxiety disorders, including PTSD, OCD, phobias, panic disorder, and generalised anxiety disorder.

Sarah is trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-focused CBT, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and uses evidence-based assessments to understand each client's presenting concerns.

Care should be personalised to the individual — not everyone with the same diagnosis needs the same treatment. Sarah works closely with each client to understand their unique values, needs, and interests before deciding on a therapeutic approach together.
